Event brings industry, academia, and government together to promote Maryland regional biotech activity

(Rockville, MD) March 3, 2016-- The Institute for Bioscience and Biotechnology Research (IBBR), a translational research institute dedicated to advancing innovative scientific discoveries to commercial applications, hosted its first bio-networking event on February 25th that brought together 250 scientists from academia, industry, government agencies, investors, and budding entrepreneurs seeking to connect with each other in an informal setting to talk about biotech. The event was hosted at IBBR’s newly designed auditorium and modernized meeting space that connects science with industry.

IBBR is a University System of Maryland joint research enterprise between the University of Maryland College Park, The University of Maryland Baltimore, and the National Institute of Standards and Technology. With a scientific focus on structure and function of biomolecules, e.g. vaccines, therapeutics, and drug delivery technologies, IBBR’s mission is to leverage its unique ability to marshal technologies and expertise across its partner institutions, to foster integrated cross-disciplinary team approaches to scientific research and education, and to pursue translational programs and projects aimed at advancing innovations to commercialization in real world applications. The Institute also serves to expand the economic base of science and technology in the state of Maryland and at the national level.

Located in the heart of Maryland’s biotechnology corridor, the Institute is situated on the Universities at Shady Grove Campus in Rockville and in close proximity of the NIH, FDA, University of Maryland, John Hopkins University, many large and small biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, and other important government agencies.

Organized jointly with BioBuzz, a bio-networking group located in Rockville MD, the Bio-Networking events are designed to show the vibrancy of Maryland’s biotech corridor. “Events such as these aim to facilitate and accelerate the commercialization potential of Maryland’s biotechnology industry and encourage collaboration among industry, academia and government,” said Dr. Thomas Fuerst, IBBR Director.

In order to facilitate bio-networking events, IBBR works with industry to offer a full array of conference and event services to the biotech community with its state-of-the-art meeting space and expert event planning services.  These services include program development, online registration, and financial management of on-site services such as catering, registration and signage.
