About us

Advances in our understanding of biomolecular structure-function relationships which underpin therapeutic discovery, development and manufacture require a wide array of resources, perspectives and expertise. Pharmaceutical and biotech companies; academic and government institutions; regulatory agencies and standards organizations – everyone has an essential part to play.

But someone must stand at the center and serve as the catalyst. That’s why the Institute for Bioscience and Biotechnology Research (IBBR) is uniquely structured to bring together all of the critical elements necessary to pursue solutions to major health challenges while strengthening the state and nation’s bioeconomy.

Located in Montgomery County, in the heart of Maryland’s biotechnology corridor, IBBR is a research partnership of the University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP), the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).  IBBR is also a major initiative of the University of Maryland Strategic Partnership: MPowering the State .
