BioRAFT

The University of Maryland has transitioned to a web-based platform (BioRAFT) with various modules for the management of research safety, compliance and training in the laboratory.  Below are two reference guides to assist research staff in registering their lab with BioRAFT.

The Platform Quick Start Guide explains how to complete the lab setup process, which includes filling out the lab's contact information, research focus, hazard assessment (selecting hazards that any member of your lab may be exposed to), lab members page and selecting the job activities for all lab members.

The Biological Registration Quick Start Guide explains how to register the lab's biological material usage and projects. When selecting the categories of biological materials, these selections will prompt additional surveys that need to be completed to provide information to the Biosafety Officer and Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) during review of an IBC protocol (project).  Any project that involves the use of recombinant or synthetic nucleic acids, infectious agents or human/non-human primate source materials must be registered using the Project Form.  Projects differing in scope and/or biological material usage and having different funding sources must be registered separately.
