Congratulations to Daniel Kemboi for a Successful Dissertation Defense
Fri, May 9, 2025
IBBR proudly congratulates Daniel Kemboi for successfully defending his PhD dissertation on “The Molecular Basis for Gamma Phage Targeting” on March 11, 2025. Kemboi will complete his coursework and fulfill the requirements for the doctoral degree this spring.
His research, done under Dr. Daniel Nelson (IBBR Fellow), explores how bacteriophage γ specifically targets the bacteria Bacillus anthracis, which causes anthrax. The dissertation characterizes key phage proteins responsible for host recognition and infection. This research holds strong future implications in the design of phage-based diagnostic tests and lays the foundation for countermeasures against bacterial pathogens.
We look forward to following Dr. Kemboi’s continued contributions to research and innovation in microbial biology and diagnostics.
