Dr. Eric Toth

IBBR extends our warmest congratulations to Dr. Eric Toth, IBBR Fellow, on his recent promotion to Associate Research Professor.

Dr. Toth’s expertise and research involve X-ray crystallography, biochemistry, and drug design. His current research interests lie in developing a protein-based therapeutic directed against Ras, a cancer-causing protein. His long-term goal is to create a platform to engineer future protein therapeutics to treat cancers, along with other diseases. Dr. Toth’s work also holds great implications in developing novel vaccines - his most recent publication describes the structure of a soluble secreted version of the hepatitis C virus glycoprotein complex, which he and his collaborators at IBBR designed as a novel vaccine antigen and biological probe.  “I have known Dr. Toth since he arrived in Maryland from Harvard University, and he is highly deserving of this promotion. His science is second to none and he is a fantastic colleague in all respects. I look forward to continuing to work with him for years to come,” said Dr. David Weber, IBBR Co-Director.

Dr. Toth earned a BA in Biochemistry at the University of Pennsylvania and then received his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from UCLA. Toth then completed his postdoctoral training at UCLA and Harvard Medical School.
