Dr. Eunkyoung Kim

Dr. Eunkyoung Kim, Assistant Research Professor in the Payne Lab at University of Maryland College Park and IBBR, was awarded the Best Paper of the Year by the Advances in Redox Research journal. This peer-reviewed interdisciplinary journal published close to thirty papers in 2023 with a range of studies of oxidation-reduction processes throughout biology, chemistry, and health and disease. Kim’s paper entitled, “Spectroelectrochemical testing of a proposed mechanism for a redox-based therapeutic intervention: Ascorbate treatment of severe paraquat poisoning” used an electrochemical approach to investigate a hypothesis suggested for treating paraquat poisoning. The team envisions electrochemistry as having great benefits for redox biology with its ability to enable rapid, sensitive, and rigorous research. Dr. Kim will present her paper at the Society for Redox Biology and Medicine's 31st annual conference in Savannah, Georgia November 20-23, 2024.
