IBBR Ph.D. Student Earns Prestigious 2026 Summer Research Fellowship

Fri, May 1, 2026

IBBR proudly congratulates doctoral student Holly Hemesath on receiving the Graduate Student Summer Research Fellowship for 2026, a competitive award that supports Ph.D. students at critical stages of their training. Holly is a member of Dr. Yanxin Liu’s group at the Institute for Bioscience & Biotechnology Research (IBBR) and in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Maryland, College Park.

Holly’s research focuses on computational modeling of the complete conformational and functional cycle of the molecular chaperone Hsp90. This work has the potential to inform novel therapeutic strategies for both cancer and neurodegenerative diseases. The fellowship will allow her to dedicate the summer to advancing a key milestone in this project.

“Holly is a motivated and independent student,” said her advisor, Dr. Liu. “This recognition reflects both her talent and her commitment to impactful science.”
Congratulations to Holly on this well-deserved honor.
