IBBR’s Wright Makambi Awarded NRC Postdoctoral Fellowship

IBBR proudly congratulates Wright Makambi on receiving a National Research Council (NRC) postdoctoral fellowship. The NRC award provides competitive postdoctoral opportunities nationwide, allowing fellows to pursue advanced research and provides access to valuable and specialized facilities.

This prestigious award recognizes Makambi’s research achievements and will provide support for his continued work in biomedical research. Makambi, currently working under Dr. Ella Mihailescu, is conducting research on developing high-throughput approaches to study the complex interactions between proteins, pathogenic microorganisms, and cancer cells. His specific focus is on antimicrobial peptides which are small proteins that aid in the body’s natural defense system. By generating large datasets on these molecular interactions, his work could help researchers better evaluate the therapeutic potential of peptides as well as accelerate the development of predictive models and drug discovery methods.
