Eunkyoung Kim Expands Biomanufacturing Research at IBBR
Wed, Sep 30, 2026

IBBR warmly welcomes Eunkyoung Kim, Assistant Research Professor, to her new role at IBBR, where she will continue her work on advancing quantitative redox measurement technologies to better understand complex biological systems.
Dr. Kim’s research is driven by the vision that redox processes provide a dynamic window into the physiological state of biological systems. By integrating electrochemical and optical measurements with data-driven approaches, she aims to translate complex redox information into quantitative, interpretable signatures and develop simple, robust tools for monitoring complex biological processes, with applications spanning fundamental biology, biomanufacturing, and human health.
Her move to IBBR comes at an exciting time, with the recently renovated testbed space at IBBR, the physical home of the newly launched CRAB Lab initiative. This $17.3 million project will advance the longstanding partnership between UMD and NIST and support the application of artificial intelligence to biomanufacturing and biotherapeutic research.
Dr. Kim has contributed to extensive research projects in her previous roles, including at the Fischell Institute under Dr. Gregory Payne and Dr. William Bentley, where she developed biosensors and various spectroelectrochemical methods to extract and characterize redox information from complex biological samples.
